Despite a zillion pictures in a lifetime, the real thing is still better.
Even five millennia ago, the archetype of the beautiful and serene sisters was powerfully evocative. No one knows for sure what happened on this porch, which is without apparent access.
Snakes were important symbols of regeneration and fecundity. This god (or goddess?) wore a cape held together by snakes.
This freize decorated the western roof of the Parthenon.
